A ski chalet for a large group or two families in Les 2 Alpes
Two families sharing, grandparents, parents and grandchildren together, or a group of friends: here's how to plan a ski week in Les 2 Alpes when there are ten or twelve of you.
Why a chalet works better than hotel rooms
- One shared living space. Everyone ends the day around the same table, instead of meeting up in a restaurant.
- Your own kitchen. Cooking for twelve is much cheaper than eating out every night, and children can eat when they need to.
- Room to be apart. Bedrooms on different floors mean early risers, late talkers and toddlers' naps don't clash.
- One price for the whole chalet. Split between two families, a chalet often costs less per person than several hotel rooms or apartments.
What to check before booking
- Bathrooms. With twelve people, the morning rush is real. Look for at least three bathrooms.
- A table for everyone. Not every chalet that sleeps twelve can seat twelve at dinner.
- How the beds are split. Children's rooms and double rooms matter more than the total number of beds.
- Distance to the slopes. When the group splits between ski levels, being close to the slopes lets everyone come and go on their own.
- Parking. Two families often arrive in two or more cars.
How two families can share Chalet Leslie Alpen 1
Chalet Leslie Alpen 1 sleeps up to 12 over four levels, which makes it easy to give each family its own floor:
- Family 1, ground and first floor (up to 5): the master suite with a double bed and its own shower room, the children's dormitory upstairs with 3 single beds, and the separate WC.
- Family 2, lower level (up to 7): two double bedrooms, a children's room with a bunk bed and a single bed, and two bathrooms.
- Shared: the living room with fireplace, the kitchen and the table for twelve on the ground floor, and the spa level with sauna, hammam and jacuzzi.
For three generations, grandparents usually take the master suite. It has its own shower room and is on the same floor as the living room and kitchen, so there are fewer stairs.
Practical tips for a big group
- Book the peak weeks early. Christmas and New Year and the French February school holidays fill up first.
- Stays run Saturday to Saturday. In February, the roads up from the valley are busiest on Saturdays, so leave early.
- Plan the first shop. There are several supermarkets on the main street; agree a shopping list before you arrive.
- Parking: the chalet has 2 outdoor spaces, and there's more parking along the lane, shared with the neighbouring chalets.
- A lunch for the whole group. Non-skiers can take the Diable lifts up to Le Diable au Cœur (2,400 m, featured in the Michelin Guide) and meet the skiers for lunch with a panoramic view. Booking is required.
- Book ski lessons and equipment together when you book the chalet, especially in school holidays.
- Staying longer? The chalet has fibre internet (1 Gbit/s), an office nook and a second desk, so some of the group can work part of the week.
